Description

Indulge in a rustic, farmhouse-style dessert that layers moist chocolate cake with homemade salted peanut caramel and creamy peanut butter frosting. Topped with a silky milk chocolate ganache, this cake perfectly balances salty and sweet for a truly satisfying treat.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups granulated sugar (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for caramel)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for caramel)
  • 1 tsp salt (for caramel)
  • 1 1/2 cups salted peanuts, chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature (for frosting)
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 2 Snickers bars, chopped
  • Sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare four cake pans with parchment paper and grease.
  2. Whisk dry ingredients in a large bowl, then stir in wet ingredients until smooth; divide batter into pans and bake for 22–25 minutes.
  3. Prepare the caramel by melting sugar to an amber color, then stirring in butter, heavy cream, and salt before whipping once cooled and folding in peanuts.
  4. Beat together room-temperature butter and peanut butter, then add vanilla, salt, powdered sugar, and heavy cream to create a fluffy frosting.
  5. Assemble the cake by piping a buttercream dam on each layer and filling with peanut caramel, then apply a crumb coat and chill.
  6. Finish with a final layer of frosting, chopped peanuts around the base, and a warm milk chocolate ganache drip topped with Snickers pieces and sea salt.

Notes

For the best assembly experience, ensure your cake layers are completely cooled before adding the caramel and frosting. If your caramel seems too soft, chilling it for 15 minutes before whipping can help it hold its shape within the buttercream dam.
