Description

Celebrate the summer holidays with this stunning Gluten-Free American Flag Cake, featuring a moist, tender crumb topped with creamy vanilla frosting and vibrant fresh berries. It is a simple yet show-stopping dessert that ensures everyone at the table can enjoy a slice of patriotic joy.

Ingredients

  • 1 box gluten-free cake mix (vanilla or chocolate)
  • 1 container gluten-free vanilla frosting or homemade whipped cream
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare and bake the gluten-free cake mix according to the package directions, then allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
  2. Rinse the blueberries and strawberries, drying them thoroughly with paper towels to prevent juices from bleeding into the frosting.
  3. Spread an even layer of vanilla frosting over the top of the cooled cake using an offset spatula.
  4. Create the star section by arranging blueberries in neat rows in the upper left corner.
  5. Lay the sliced strawberries in horizontal rows across the cake to represent the stripes, leaving space for the white frosting to show through.
  6. Dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired and chill for 10-15 minutes before serving if the environment is warm.

Notes

For the cleanest look, ensure the cake is entirely cold before frosting to prevent melting. Using an offset spatula makes it much easier to achieve a level surface for your berry decorations, and drying the fruit with extra care is the secret to keeping those red and blue colors from running into the white frosting.
